Nilay Patalia Architects has a distinctive design philosophy: site and context first, fresh thinking on every project, an aesthetic that is honest, understated, and sensitive to its surroundings. The studio has been practising since 2005, has taught at RVCA Bengaluru, and has delivered projects ranging from startup accelerator spaces for global organisations to hospitality and residential work across India.
The challenge was to build a website that reflected that philosophy without contradicting it. An over-designed portfolio site would have been the wrong answer for a practice that believes in restraint. The site needed to be minimal, structured, and quiet enough that the photography and project work became the entire point of visiting it.
The Solution
The WordPress build was approached with the same restraint the studio brings to architecture. Clean typographic choices, generous white space, and a project gallery structure that let each piece of work occupy the page without competing with anything else around it.
Navigation was kept simple and logical, guiding visitors naturally from the portfolio into the studio's approach and the team behind the work. The About section was written and structured to communicate the studio's philosophy clearly: the emphasis on diagramming, the non-hierarchical way of working, the commitment to spending real time on each project rather than optimising for volume.
The overall result is a site that feels like it was designed by someone who understood the practice, not just built to a template.
